My Thoughts: Ageism

Growing up, I was conditioned to equate a person’s age with their maturity and wisdom. It took time—and unlearning—to break out of that mindset and begin seeing people for who they truly are, beyond the number attached to them.

I’ve shared some of these reflections in a podcast episode and a carousel post on Instagram.

While I may write a longer, more in-depth piece when the time feels right, for now, here are my thoughts on ageism and what it means to truly see each other beyond age.

Just because someone is older… doesn’t automatically mean they’re wiser.

And just because someone is younger… doesn’t mean they don’t have wisdom to share.

You’ve probably met people who are far wiser than their years—

…and others who’ve aged without truly maturing.

Everyday life is an opportunity to grow, learn, and mature—no matter your age.

If you're young, don’t attack the older for being “outdated.”

Not everyone grew up with the same tools or exposure.

And if you’re older, don’t dismiss the young for “not knowing enough.”

Fresh eyes often see what seasoned ones have stopped noticing.

Sometimes you’re the wayshower.

Other times, you’re the student.

So don’t hold back your voice just because you’re “too young”…

… and don’t silence your inner child’s joy just because you’re “too old.”

Your age is not your identity.

You are not defined by a number.

Let your essence—not your years—lead the way.

And if others resist you… it might just mean you’re here to offer a new perspective.

I grew up conditioned to judge people based on their age. I was often put down by parents, relatives, and teachers—not because they truly knew better, but because they made me feel like they did.

As I got older, I started noticing a different kind of projection—from younger people, who dismissed me with “you wouldn’t understand” simply because of my age. The irony is, I was simply asking questions because I genuinely wanted to understand.

Now, I no longer see people through the lens of age. I see them through the essence of their humanness.

I know many of us carry trauma and conditioning—but identifying with your age, or projecting your pain onto others because of theirs, isn’t the solution.

We’re all made of energy, experience, and soul—not numbers.

So I invite you to stop seeing others through the filters of age, gender, race, or appearance… and start seeing them for who they truly are.
